Pastor David McCarthy was ordained in 2014 at Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Prior to taking the call to serve at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, January 2020, he served a dual parish in Southwest Nebraska, in Wauneta and Palisade.

Aside from serving the congregation of Holy Cross, Pastor McCarthy is also a Chaplain in the Army Reserve, starting first as a Chaplain Candidate in 2010 while he was working towards completing Seminary. He has deployed twice to the middle east, first time in 2019 with the 349th Combat Support Hospital, and again in 2023 with the 785th Combat Operation Stress Control Team (Behavioral Health). He is currently serving as the Brigade Chaplain for the 176thMedical Brigade down in Seagoville, Texas.

Prior to attending seminary, Pastor McCarthy married Kayleigh Klein, June  2009. To this union they have been blessed with three boys.

Aside from spending time with his family, Pastor McCarthy also enjoys cooking, powerlifting, and karate.
